The details - some improvements

Now about some of the (minor) improvements done. Most will not notice these, apart from maybe the previous owners.
As I will be sailing the boat short handed most of the time, easy sail handling and safety are important.
So one of the first additions was to install a lazy bag for the main sail and a fixed boom vang.
The vang, apart from the easier trimming of the main sail, it also avoids somebody being hit by the boom, when lowering the main.

The lazy bag.

The boom vang.

Another change was to make a new hatch cover for the entrance.
The wood of the original one was very dried out and parts were broken off.

Before.

During.

And the end result.

The boat came with a GPS, but after the removal of the steering wheel, there was no real place to install it. Therefore this small hatch cover was created, which can serve as a seat (which also protects the GPS) and avoid water coming in the accommodation from the cockpit.

Talking about water coming in. The repair of the forward hatch did not solve the problem. In order to have polycarbonate plates to glue only Sikaflex will not work. A primer is needed first. My brother prepared a new polycarbonate window and send it to Brazil (takes due to my colleague, who was willing to hand carry it on the plane).
Here the result:
The old window.

Removed and ready for cleaning.

Final result, now it should not leak anymore.

Like I mentioned before although the boat is more than 35 years old, all the parts are still available. Like new roller for the traveler.

Look how the old rollers were worn out, some of them almost square.

The finally the winches. First they needed a thorough cleaning and greasing.
The main winches are Lewmar 55, 3-speed. The 3rd speed was not working anymore, because the buttons were gone, including the other parts.
Managed to buy these parts and now the winch is working as it should.
 Cleaning of the winches.

The main winches again with the magic button.
