The Peterson 34 Bierkaai - BRA 30630

Initially the plan was just to give the floor plates a new coat of varnish. They were sanded, as seen on the photo above, and given a new coating. The result was not that good and also it was clear 2 floor plates needed repair, because some part was partially rotten. The orange colored plate was worse and it was tried to make a new plate, but the color was way off and also it started to curve.      The end result after the plates were vanished again.    The 2 plates which had to be replaced. To replace them is easier said than done. This type of floor is called "Teak and Holly". Originally these were larger strips of teak which a smaller strip of a lighter wood. Nowadays this is available in plywood or even veneer.   Teak and Holly or prefabbed plywood Of course this is not available in Brazil. To make complete new floor plates would be very expensive and even to find somebody able to do so would be difficult. Therefore the choice was to purchase a prod

The days before the boat was put into the water, there was a considerable amount of wind. Luckily on the first day to test the boat, there was very little, but enough wind. Perfect to check if all was working well and in case something need adjustment this would not be a problem. The modification on the rudder shaft showed perfect. There is no movement anymore and the rudder is very light and precise. Also the instruments seem to work OK, but still need to be calibrated.      Later on some friends came by to take the first pictures of the Bierkaai under sail.         The first picture shows the Genoa II without the blue colar on the leach. Instead of this, from now on there will be a sleeve which will be hoisted over the rolled in head sail to protect it from the sun. This can be used for each of the head sails.

Here the job list of all the items which were changed, modified or added since I purchased the boat. The order is not in sequence of importance, but as it came to mind when I was writing down the list. JOB LIST: - Removed all layers of anti-fouling. - Osmose treatment.     - New anti-fouling (3 layers). - Painting of hull and deck.   - Painted inside cabin.     - Removal of all (SS) hardware on deck for maintenance and polish.       - Removal of various holes, like old water inlet, loudspeaker in cockpit, support for fishing poles.     - Mast and boom painted white.     - Removed the little deck    on the stern. - Removed the “spoiler” which was part of the pushpit. - Installed a new ladder on the stern. Changed the type of radar reflector. Changed cockpit drains and adjusted the connections inside, so they will drain correctly when inclined.       Changed from steering wheel to tiller.    Changed out rudder shaft with new
